Senior Lien Mechanical System Replacements – Radar Training Facility
Guernsey was contracted by the Oklahoma City Airport Trust (OCAT) to define design requirements and develop construction documents for the replacement of mechanical systems at approximately 15 buildings at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center and Federal Aviation Administration at Will Rogers World Airport. The final project site of these projects was at the Radar Training Facility on the MMAC campus.
For the Radar Training Facility project Guernsey has completed construction documents to remove an electric steam boiler, three chillers, and three air handling units in the basement mechanical room; and two roof-mounted fluid coolers and associated piping. New mechanical system replacement work includes two packaged air-cooled chillers at 70% capacity located on the roof, gas fired condensing boiler, heating hot water and chilled water pumps, and three air handling units.
Support work includes building modifications required to fit new mechanical equipment into the basement and to reroute new piping vertically through the first and second floors and to the roof. New structural platforms have been designed for equipment placement on the RTF roof.
Electrical work includes providing new power for the new basement and roof-mounted equipment.
The project development for the Radar Training Facility has been accomplished through a series of site and building investigations, analysis of existing systems and design studies to better understand how to provide the OCAT and FAA the optimum design solution.
Outcomes
This project resulted in the redesign and replacement of the mechanical systems in the Radar Training Facility on the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center campus.
