MAPS 4 Beautification Master Plan
In June of 2022, Guernsey was selected by the City of Oklahoma City and MAPS 4 to develop a citywide Beautification Master Plan. Driven by a robust and inclusive public engagement effort, the master planning process, called BeautifyOKC, is a tool to aid the City of Oklahoma City’s efforts in transforming the appearance of the City, elevating daily experiences, and improving the first impression of visitors. The MAPS 4 Beautification Master Plan will provide a blueprint for beautification projects, including gardens, plazas, gateways, bridge enhancements, murals, landscaping, artwork, and more along several key corridors and interchanges.
The most important part of the project is engaging with the public and stakeholders in order to gain a deep and authentic understanding of Oklahoma City. We are taking a “roll your sleeves up” approach by meeting stakeholders where they are – at public events, parks, libraries, etc. – and keeping engagement accessible to diverse demographics. Our goal is to develop a Master Plan that details where the City should prioritize beautification projects and what those beautification projects should be, according to community input.
Upon completion, the MAPS 4 Beautification Master Plan will include a Vision Story to focus the beautification framework on community visioning, a list of recommended projects selected according to community engagement, and a Beautification Matrix to assist with implementation of beautification projects.
