Guernsey Drives Newcastle’s Development One Design at a Time
New Fire Station Enhances Services
Guernsey, a leading design and consulting firm, proudly announces the opening of Fire Station #1 in Newcastle, showcasing our commitment to thoughtful community service design.
Our team worked closely with community leaders throughout the project to ensure the station meets Newcastle’s unique needs. Key features of the 19,000-square-foot station include:
- Four drive-through apparatus bays are strategically positioned for seamless emergency vehicle entry and exit. This design element enhances response times facilitating quick deployment of firefighting resources during emergencies.
- In line with modern safety standards, the station incorporates a dedicated storm shelter, providing a secure refuge for firefighters during inclement weather events. This crucial feature enables personnel to continue their operations without compromising their safety.
- The Newcastle Fire Station prioritizes the health and well-being of its personnel by featuring specialized decontamination rooms. Equipped to manage post-fire decontamination procedures, these rooms mitigate the risk of exposure to hazardous materials.
- Complementing its operational capabilities, the station houses a state-of-the-art training room where firefighters can hone their skills and stay abreast of evolving firefighting techniques. Including sleeping rooms further enhances operational readiness by providing firefighters with comfortable resting spaces between shifts, promoting optimal performance during emergency responses.
- Recognizing the importance of physical fitness in the demanding firefighting role, the station features a dedicated fitness room equipped with modern exercise equipment.
The new station marks a significant milestone for Newcastle, which has grown from a small town of 1,200 residents to a growing city of 14,000. The limitations of the original 1967 fire station and a subsequent second station highlighted the need for this modern facility to support the community’s increasing demands.
