Water/Wastewater Project Engineer

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be expected to plan, design, and possibly manage multidiscipline projects consisting of water/wastewater treatment and collection/distribution systems for municipal type clients in the Oklahoma region. The individual should be capable of performing the technical design and/or hydraulic modeling requirements on water/wastewater projects and additional consideration will be given to those that have experience managing a team of engineers, EITs, CADD technicians, and sub-consultants, to successfully execute these types of projects. Other items to be considered will be the individual’s ability to develop or assist with the preparation of statement of qualifications and proposals, interact with and be responsive to client’s needs, negotiate contracts, and develop additional business for Guernsey.

Primary Duties

  • Develop detailed designs, plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates for treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations, tanks and other water/wastewater storage and conveyance systems. More specific responsibilities include performing or managing engineering/process design, hydraulics, pumping systems, and treatment process projects
  • Ability to create, calibrate, modify, and perform hydraulic modeling for water and wastewater systems, and interpret and communicate the results to others
  • Perform business development duties with current and potential clients

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in the municipal water/wastewater and/or public works field of engineering is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer’s license in the state of Oklahoma or the ability to gain licensure within 1 year.
  • Experience in study, design, and construction administration of water/wastewater facilities and systems.Experience with permitting of water lines, sewer lines, and/or treatment plants through local, state, and federal regulators preferred.
  • Strong commitment to working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control procedures.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated, able to lead or assist a project team to completion of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to guide, direct, and coordinate with multiple professionals involved in water/wastewater type projects and to manage the performance of various personnel in other departments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Strong computer skills and/or hydraulic civil analysis programs.
  • Experience with water resources engineering (e.g., SPPPs, BMPs, erosion control plans, 404 permits, infrastructure design) including proficiency in HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, EPA SWMM, and ArcGIS, is a plus.

Essential Physical Functions: Stand or sit – must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Walk –this position requires the ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. – 25% of the time. Full range of motion to walk, stoop and stand while working on worksites – 25% of the time. Use hands/fingers – must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer – 50% of the time. Talk – This position frequently communicates with internal and external customers, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations – 25% of the time. Vision – must be able to clearly focus on information located on a computer screen, paperwork, etc. – 50% of the time. Lift/Carry – must be able to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. of site equipment when necessary.
