Senior Consultant

The Role: As a Senior Consultant in the Retail Department of our Analytical Solutions Group, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to electric cooperative clients — taking lead roles in engagements and project management around cost-of-service studies, retail rate design, forecasting, power supply and retail interface, financial & regulatory analysis, and client strategy. We’re looking for someone who not only brings strong analytical and modelling skills, but who can take ownership of complex client work, mentor junior staff, and help grow our consulting practice in the retail electric space.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead client engagements and projects from project kickoff through execution and delivery, focusing on retail electric cooperative clients (e.g., cost-of-service/wholesale-to-retail pass-through, rate design, forecasting, scenario analysis, regulatory support)
  • Develop financial, cost-of-service, and forecasting models; evaluate scenarios and quantify impacts of strategic decisions (e.g., alternative retail rate structures, power supply procurement decisions, regulatory changes)
  • Provide clear, actionable recommendations to clients and present findings to senior stakeholders (board, executive management, regulatory staff)
  • Mentor and oversee junior consulting staff; provide guidance on analytical work, modelling, client engagement, and professional development
  • Contribute to business development: help define project scopes, prepare proposals, build client relationships, and enhance service offerings
  • Stay current on market, regulatory, utility business model and industry trends relevant to retail electric cooperatives
  • Travel to client sites or meetings as required

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) in engineering, business, finance, economics, or a related discipline; Master’s or MBA preferred
  • Typically 7-10+ years of relevant experience — consulting or industry experience in electric utilities or related sectors (especially retail/wholesale interface, rate design, cost-of-service, forecasting, regulatory) preferred but not mandatory
  • Strong analytical, modelling and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to convert complex data/analysis into business-relevant insights and recommendations
  • Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills; ability to engage senior stakeholders and build trusted relationships
  • Ability to mentor/coach junior staff and work in team leadership roles
  • High level of organization, self-motivation, ability to manage multiple work-streams and deliver high-quality work on schedule
  • Familiarity with utility business models, electric markets, rate design, cost recovery, forecasting and regulatory dynamics is highly desirable
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
