Sr. Mechanical Engineer

Description of Duties / Responsibilities:

Guernsey is looking for an experienced Sr. Mechanical Engineer with project leadership experience. The successful candidate will serve as project engineer for mechanical and plumbing projects, integrate with other disciplines in our full service firm and continue our reputation for strong and capable designs. Design responsibilities will include, at a minimum, the following:

  • Lead execution of complex HVAC designs using advanced techniques, resulting in the development of industry leading systems, equipment, and/or technological methods
  • Perform energy models and feasibility studies for proposed systems
  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members
  • Meet regularly with clients and outside personnel
  • Opportunity to engage in some marketing and business development
  • Other general design responsibilities:
    • HVAC Load Calculations
    • Energy Analysis
    • Life Cycle Cost Analysis
    • Equipment Selection
    • Ductwork design
    • Hydronic system design
    • Controls system design
    • Plumbing design
    • Develop specifications and coordinate with drawings for other disciplines
    • Assist in proposal development as well as pursuit planning and go/no-go decisions
    • Other assignments as required

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field required
  • Minimum 10+years industry work related experience
  • Willing to travel to project sites as required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-discipline project team ensuring that respective discipline work is accomplished according to schedule
  • Computer literacy including Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Revit and industry related design programs (Carrier Hourly Analysis Program, Trane Trace, etc.)

Essential Physical Functions:
Stand or sit – must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Walk –this position requires the ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. – 25% of the time. Full range of motion to walk, stoop and stand while working on worksites – 25% of the time. Use hands/fingers – must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer – 50% of the time. Talk – This position frequently communicates with internal and external customers, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations – 25% of the time. Vision – must be able to clearly focus on information located on a computer screen, paperwork, etc. – 50% of the time. Lift/Carry – must be able to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. of site equipment when necessary.
