Oklahoma City-based Guernsey has earned a National Recognition Award for exemplary engineering achievement in the American Council of Engineering Companies' 50th annual Engineering Excellence Awards for the Boeing Co. office and laboratory complex in Oklahoma City.

The complex, which consolidated 30 laboratories and functions from multiple locations nationwide, required mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to support multifaceted functions with the efficiency and reliability to meet exacting research requirements. Guernsey designed the HVAC and electrical systems to be as flexible and powerful as possible, while also supporting growth.

Secrecy and security were primary considerations in the systems' design. "A tightly coordinated electrical system uses multiple utility feeds rather than on-site generation, combined with the largest available distribution equipment. The facility was also hardened to withstand tornadoes up to EF4 intensity in order to protect employees and high-value aeronautical laboratory equipment," the council said.

Recognition of award winners will be at a black-tie dinner and gala April 25 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C.
