Design-Build Athletic Stadium

The demolition of the existing athletic stadium at Fort Hood created an immediate operational gap. Training, recreation, and event capacity were displaced. The replacement had to restore function fast while navigating a constrained, infrastructure-heavy site.

Guernsey served as Designer of Record for a design-build replacement stadium commissioned by the USACE Fort Worth District at Fort Hood.

The new site, located in the southwest corner of the base, introduced layered complexity. Storm water management, existing utilities, and concurrent installation of overhead power distribution lines required tight coordination across systems and timelines.

The resulting facility delivers a complete, multi-sport environment. The stadium features an aluminum bleacher system with 5,000 seats overlooking an eight-lane, quarter-mile rubber running track surrounding a regulation football and soccer field. Supporting infrastructure includes two restroom buildings, two concession stands, a locker room building, and a maintenance storage facility.

The broader complex expands utility beyond a single venue. A four-field softball complex includes dugouts and bleachers for each field. Both sites are equipped with field lighting, scoreboards, and PA systems.

Access and circulation were rebuilt to match scale. A new two-lane asphalt road with a bicycle lane connects the site to 1,000 parking spaces, supporting both daily use and large events.

The project achieved LEED Gold Certifiable status with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, reinforcing performance standards alongside functionality.

Today, the facility operates as a multi-purpose venue for physical training, recreation, and entertainment, serving personnel at Fort Hood and the surrounding Killeen community
