University Enterprise Laboratory Corporate Headquarters
The mission and vision of the University Enterprise Laboratory is to facilitate the growth of Minnesota’s next generation of Fortune 500 bioscience companies by incubating early stage ventures and providing them with premier facilities and services that enable innovation, growth and commercial success.
UEL is a collaborative research center that promotes advances in biology and biotechnology and encourages job creation in Minnesota. The vision for this project began in 2001, when Minnesota visionaries and researchers identified the need for a one-of-a-kind facility in the metropolitan area. University Enterprise Laboratories, LLC was founded as a 501c(3) nonprofit and the search for funding and a site began. Early on, substantial supporters of the UEL vision included the University of Minnesota Foundation, XCel Energy, and the City of St. Paul.
An industrial facility and adjacent land was identified, located ideally between the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses of the University of Minnesota, and central to the metropolitan area. The facility was renovated to accommodate the needs of the growing bioscience organizations in their own spaces. An iconic front entry was designed to give the facility an identity of its own, and an entrance that could not be mistaken. With careful consideration given to the need of flexibility within each of the spaces, the design became as unique as the companies occupying the facility.
Through the public-private partnerships between the University of Minnesota Foundation, Xcel Energy, and the City of St. Paul, UEL successfully created a premier bioscience business incubation facility.
