Feasibility Assessment – Waikiki Seawater District Cooling

Kyo-Ya Management Company came to us for a technical and economic feasibility analysis of a proposed seawater-district cooling project for some of the area’s major commercial facilities. Our analysis included sensitivities for construction cost, energy charge rates, debt financing rates, customer load projections and system depreciation methodologies.

The project involved installing an 8,700-meter deep seawater pipe, 1.8 meters in diameter, and bringing it to a land-based production facility. The production facility was sized at a capacity of 22,500 tons cooling and would offset approximately 69,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually.

The projected energy savings are a reduction in oil consumption by approximately 117,000 barrels and in carbon emissions by approximately 55,000 tons a year.
